š¦¾ Why we desire

Dear Melius Humano,
Humans are desiring machines.
Nature made us this way.
If we didnāt want things, weād die out fast.
This is natural selection 101.
To keep a species from going extinct, nature had to create strong mechanisms of desire. Humans are the only species aware of why we desire what we desire. We study ourselves and our past to understand why we do what we do.
We MUST use this understanding to our advantage and to avoid the pitfalls we face as modern humans living in a modern, mismatched environment.
Simply put, evolutionary biology explains EVERYTHING. I call it the āAncestral Mindset.ā
But most modern humans are oblivious to their ancestral past. This is surprising, considering itās the most powerful tool you can use to live a better life.
Whatever you want to accomplish is on the other side of yourself and other humans. So the more you know about each, the more effective you are and the more traps you will avoid.
When you donāt have money, it becomes all you think about. That makes perfect sense because today money is survival. If youāre starving, food is all you think about. If youāre naked in the snow, shelter/warmth is all you think about. So on and so forth.
Desire is simply nature keeping us alive. And she kept us in check by controlling the dose.
Our ancestors didnāt have unlimited access to food, entertainment, social media, porn, or everything else we take for granted in the modern world.
If they wanted something, they had to work. An investment of energy and time was part of the process.
When you understand this, you can look at any modern excess and understand why too much of a thing we desire causes problems.
Iāve been viewing myself and the world through this lens for years. It applies to everything.
As an adult pursuing self-actualization, I keep coming back to people.
Everyone talks about community. People seem to understand its importance, yet still spend most of their time inside, in front of a screen, and otherwise alone and isolated.
They may live with roommates, a family, a significant other, and a dog or three. In that case, they are at least happier and more well-adjusted than those living aloneāthough this is still not optimal.
This tweet perfectly exemplifies the dangers of not understanding this human need:
Be very careful about retiring. Iāve seen multiple examples like this.
This story is one more example of the mismatchāand misunderstandingāof modern human life.
The richer a country gets, the more isolated it becomes.Ā Birthrate goes down. Mothers and fathers get their own condos and retirement communities. People split up to live their own lives, which is narcissistic and missing the point.
Because the point of life is not to be as comfortable as possible or to have your perfect ME ME ME routine. The point is to live with others and get all the messy inconveniences, hardships, and fun that come with it. Itās about the duality of hard/easy; for humans, itās about that and people.
Living alone and choosing not to have kids is the new ānormal.ā (lol at that phrase and every fear-monger that uttered it.)
But itās not natural.
Our ancestors spent their entire lives together. Daily. They stayed together. They returned to the tribe every night. The longest some may have been away would have been days or weeks if the men went on an extended hunt. Then theyād come back.
It was both normal and natural, which is why every studied hunter-gatherer in history has shown levels of health, mental and physical, and general happiness HIGHER than modern humansāevery single one.
The modern world splits us apart. The modern economy sells as many products and services (comforts and conveniences) to INDIVIDUALS as possible. (I like this and use it myself, the problem is most people donāt know how to manage the dose because they donāt have an Ancestral Mindset)
Look at all that furniture and crap we stuff into homes. Imagine the economic implication (billions) if American families kept Mom and Dad at home. How many fewer couches, fridges, stoves, real estate taxes, cars, garage door openers, paint, carpet, tile, etc., would there be?
My mom lives with us. It feels completely normal to me. When other parents hear this, they always ALWAYS respond with surprise.
I want my kids to be around family and friends as much as possible. They still lack, even with a household of five (Allison, Darrow, Rowen, Maven, Mom, and me). They need as many humans of all ages around them as possible. Thatās natural. Thatās the most fulfilling. Thatās what life should be about.
This realization is why my goal is to create a community where other like-minded families can come together to embrace a new, non-urban, non-isolated way of life. I want to create a model for others to follow because more humans living this way will result in happier, safer, and better humans.
If you have the means, create a new way to live. At the very least, prioritize your relationships and community.
Itās always easier to stay home plugged into the Matrix. Itās also less enjoyable and fulfilling than getting outside and spending time with others.

Define your lifestyle
This short article by Cal Newport pairs with the words above.
Visualize your ideal lifestyle centered around other people and then figure out how to craft a career that supports that.
How much control do I have over my schedule?
Whatās the intensity level of my job?
Whatās the importance of what I do?
Whatās the prestige level?
What type of work?
Where do I live?
Whatās my social life like?
Whatās my work life balance?
Whatās my family like?
How do other people think of me?
What am I known for?
Red light
Pain.
Mood.
Sleep.
Health.
Improve it all with red light.
20 mins a day is all you need.
If you spend most of your time indoors, you need red light. We have 5 units around the house for us and the kids to enjoy. It creates a nice mellow ambient light thatās great at night and during bath time.
And if you have kids that already donāt want to go to sleep, STOP ZAPPING THEM WITH BRIGHT BLUE AND WHITE LIGHT AT NIGHT!
The bigger units give you more power so you can get more benefit in less time. I recommend the biggest unit you can afford. Itās an investment. These will last your entire life if you take care of it.

š¤ Imagine having $1,000,000 in investments that generate an average yield of 5% (low end) a year.Ā
Thatās $50,000 a year.Ā
If you spend wisely, you can live off that for the rest of your life while still growing your investment.Ā
Money is the ultimate value generator when properly used. And you should never be ashamed about having it or getting it as long as you arenāt forcing anyone to give it to you.
If you arenāt already obsessed with this idea, THINK ABOUT IT DAILY.
Become obsessed with investing cash. Become obsessed with owning assets.
You should feel better about owning assets than you do about spending money. It should hurt to spend money and feel great to buy assets.

āKey Takeaway
They key to sustained happiness is creating a life of flow. Flow means being so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter and the experience itself is so enjoyable that people will do it even at great cost, for the sheer sake of doing it. To create a life of flow, we need a compelling life goal that will link all of our activities and interests into a unified goal. This could be as large a finding a cure for cancer, or simply raising healthy children who prosper. A life of flow is achievable by us all.
Money Mind Manifesto ā Master Your Mind from the Mental Disease of More Money
Speaking of the ādisease,ā Twitter king and tech entrepreneur/investor Naval Ravikantāwho has a net worth estimated at more than $60,000,000ārecently admitted:
āThereās no number thatās going to turn off an unrelenting desire for money. Thatās a scorecard that just doesnāt stop. Excessive greed occupies your mind constantly. Iām not speaking this as some holier-than-thou sage who has conquered this. Iām speaking this as a victim of thisāno matter how much money I make, itās never enough. It always occupies my mind. Itās always a constant source of anxiety. I canāt turn it off ā¦ All I can do is acknowledge, āThis is the mental disease that I haveā ā¦ Maybe eventually Iāll realize the cost of the disease is too high and Iāll drop it. Until then, Iām resigned to living with it.ā
I didn't read this entire article, but after skimming, it feels one-sided, as if wanting money is a problem.
I disagree with that completely.
Money is amazing, useful, necessary, and like everything, requires understanding and strategy.
For modern men, making money is where we find flow, meaning, and community. It's exactly like our male ancestors doing the hunting and protecting of the tribe. It was where they found meaning, purpose, and flow, each integral to human fulfillment.
The problem with money is confusing it as an end when it is actually a means.
Money is a means.
Money can buy you freedom from a job you hate. It can buy you time to enjoy hobbies and relationships.
And best of all, money removes the problem of not having money, which, as we observed above, becomes the most important thing in your life when you don't have it.
You wouldn't become obsessed with a hammer (or any tool), yet being obsessed with the home you build using that hammer makes more sense.
Both still miss the point. They are means to ends. The end of living in a comfortable home you are proud to have built or designed and the end of having done it yourself. Both are ends that result from the means and are connected to all the hard work (and hammering) required to fulfill them. Like the yin/yang, they are precisely connected/equal.
When you remove one, you get an imbalance.
If someone gives you a house, you won't appreciate it and enjoy it like a house you built.
The same is true for anything that violates the proof of work principle of nature.
Things earned last longer and are appreciated more than things received for free.
The tricky thing about life and human nature is balancing all this.
Nature has a scale. On that scale, somewhere in the gray middle, you find what Aristotle called āThe Golden Mean,ā which means the perfect dose thatās not too little or too much.
Your job is to find that in every aspect of your lifeā¦. health, fitness, food, relationships, money, fun, etc.
Your New Gut Health Routine
Your gut is the center of your life.
Improving your gut is improving your health.
Poor gut health is poor health.
Your gut is the center of it all.
So Iām focusing Wild Foodsā entire focus as a company and my health routine to helping you improve gut health.
To kick things off, we've crafted a new gut health bundle: The reWILD Your Gut bundle.
More than a bundle, it's a system, a routine, and your new daily gut-building habit.
Moving forward, everything we do will be focused on helping you improve your gut health.
The thing about premium whole food products is they're already gut supportive. Nothing we offer is going to conflict with this new goal.
Just the opposite: everything you already get from Wild will fit perfectly into your gut health routine.
Win-win.
(š¤ Why didn't I think of this a long time ago?)
The key to gut health is consistency and long-term thinking. You're not going to heal your gut overnight.
It takes time and has a high adherence rate. That's precisely why this bundle existsāto help you create the habits around building your gut so you can do it for the long run.
This all started about a year ago when I was dealing with fatigue.
My cortisol, testosterone, and other hormones were going out of whack. The signs kept pointing to my gut. Not to mention dealing with Austin allergies (cedar trees be damned).Ā
Less than a month ago, adrenal fatigue knocked me out for two weeks. I had those irrational fears that go like, "What if I never get better?"
This is just one more reminder of what I knew I needed to do: focus on my gut.
Since then, I've gone ALL IN on gut health, red lights, morning sunlight, grounding (I need to do this more), and eating whole clean foods cooked at home.
Part of this new routine is the morning gut shot that gets my stomach acid going. (Recipe here)
I started testing various ingredients and routines. From that process, the reWILD routine/bundle/system was born.
The foundation is the morning gut drink, which includes Wild Fulvic, Oxy-Mag, cream of tartar, pink salt, a dash of ACV and lemon juice, some master blend (prebiotic), and sometimes a little bit of charcoal. (Optional: add a dash of maple syrup or honey) Ā
Each ingredient supports the gut (and other things) in their own way. When combined, they are the perfect way to start (or end) the day.
Next up on the daily routine is a pre-meal protocol. The goal is to get your gut acid going before you eat to help prime it for digestion.
The best way to do that is with a small shot of one or more of the following: fulvic acid, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, bitters, and digestive enzymes. (bonus if you do them all together)
This is something I now do before every meal.
Finally, the best way to wind down is with perhaps the single most important mineral/thing you can put in your body on Earth: magnesium. (Oxy-mag and/or Mag Complex.) Then throw in some Pre/Pro and maybe a dash of honey or fulvic or ACV (or all) and you have the perfect sleep and gut-promoting nightcap.
This routine is the foundation of the reWILD Your Gut system. (More recipes and protocols to come.)
For the average person not doing much or anything to improve gut health, this simple routine is potent enough to change a life. That's how powerful gut health is and how a little attention goes a long way.
Beyond that, there is a list of gut-improving foods and routines that you can utilize. Then the gut-attacking foods and routines you should avoid. The reWild system helps you do it all.
Also check out our new Gut Health Guide.Ā There's a bunch of actionable routines you can implement immediately, so start something.
And if gut healthāhealthāis a priority for you, then I highly recommend using the new reWILD protocol as the foundation of your gut routine.
