🦾 Originality trumps competition
Dear Melius Humano,
The Internet has made it so we’re all competing with Earth's smartest and hardest-working humans.
Every young, up-and-coming creator can steal attention away from you and your business, brand, YouTube channel, or whatever.
And now make that billions of young and hungry creators.
It’s fascinating.
There are always going to be big brands. But they will be less significant, generally.
Because there will be more of them.
So more than 1,000 true fan-based creators and businesses serving a niche. That’s how the bottom spreads out. At the top, you’ll have fewer and fewer brands/individuals known by all because they no longer hang out in the same place (mainstream media/entertainment, for example).
Instead, you’ll have phenomena like Mr. Beast, Vertaism, Vsauce, K-Pop, streamers, etc.
What this means for anyone wanting to do something great is this: YOU MUST FOCUS ON BECOMING THE BEST VERSION OF YOU AS POSSIBLE.
Whatever makes you unique is what people will follow. Your uniqueness is your brand. It’s how you stand out and attract an audience and customers.
As a founder, I struggle with not comparing myself to others.
I always see other brands and founders getting more successful (at least it seems that way), which makes me feel a certain way.
I’m not a jealous or envious person. But sometimes I think, “I know what I’m capable of and the work I’ve put in… are these people really doing all this hard shit too?”
And the answer is not obvious.
A real head-scratcher.
It’s so hard because we’re all on different timelines. Who knows what the next five years hold for me or anyone else?
Many brands and founders will fail along the way, especially ones that were “flying high” for a period of time.
I guess it’s a reminder to focus and think long term.
I need to simplify. I know that. I’m working on building a bunch of infrastructure out so I can do just that—figure out what my core 80/20 is and focus 100% of my time in that 20% (or 5%) that generates the majority of my results.
You need people and systems when running a company (or 3).
I have to keep reminding myself what the goal is because the goal is not to have more people or more things to do. The goal is to have as few people as possible so that you can concentrate on the few things that matter and move the needle.
Of course, it’s hard.
But all great things require doing hard things because doing hard things is why they are great (proof of work).
I know this so intuitively that I now catch myself when I think it's hard.
Exactly. It’s supposed to be.

Red light
Pain. Mood. Sleep. Health. Recovery. Weight loss. Hair growth. Fatigue. Energy
Improve it all with red light… and 20 mins a day is all you need.
If you spend most of your time indoors, you need red light. It’s as simple as that.
We have 5 units around the house for us and the kids to enjoy. It creates a nice mellow ambient light that’s great at night and during bath time. And if your children are already refusing to sleep, STOP ZAPPING THEM AT NIGHT WITH BRIGHT BLUE AND WHITE LIGHT!
The bigger units give you more power, so you can get more benefit in less time. I recommend getting the biggest unit you can afford. It’s an investment. These will last your entire life if you take care of it.

It’s supposed to be hard
It's supposed to be hard.
I remind myself that all the time.
It mostly helps me remain patient and not send that extra text, email, or frustrated response.
So much of human relationships is simply not blowing it up.
Give people room to figure you out and you them.
It's Wild how one or two subtle remarks can start a relationship on the hill down to ending.
One of the hardest things to accept in life is other people.
I mean to accept them and remove the tit for tat and other feelings of reciprocity built into our species.
We are designed to compete and to keep score. In the past, if you shared meat, you expected to get meat back later. That's hardwired into us.
So when someone only takes, you soon stop giving.
In every relationship in our life, we're keeping a subconscious score.
How many times do they take, give, ask, snap, etc.
Like all things in nature, the goal is to find that Golden Mean that's somewhere in the middle—the perfect balance.

One: The Responsible Decision The buck stops here. I accept responsibility for my past. I am responsible for my success. I will not let my history control my destiny. (Location 273)
Two: The Guided Decision I will seek wisdom. God moves mountains to create the opportunity of His choosing. It is up to me to be ready to move myself. (Location 278)
Three: The Active Decision I am a person of action. Many people move out of the way (Location 283)
The Active Decision is a wake-up call. Taking consistent action is crucial to the realization of a successful life. We are often amazed, even baffled, by the accomplishments of highly successful people, yet many of their accomplishments occur because of relentless action. (Location 285)
Four: The Certain Decision I have a decided heart. Criticism, condemnation, and complaint are creatures of the wind. They come and go on the wasted breath of lesser beings and have no power over me. With the Certain Decision, we learn to break through fear and judgment to pursue our dreams with determination and focus. With a decided heart, we set our course and assure our destiny. Five: The Joyful Decision Today I will choose to be happy. My very life is fashioned by choice. First I make choices. Then my choices make me. The Joyful Decision is perhaps the most misunderstood of all the Decisions. The Joyful Decision demonstrates that (Location 288)
Six: The Compassionate Decision I will greet this day with a forgiving spirit. I know that God rarely uses a person whose main concern is what others are thinking. The Compassionate Decision can heal your heart, mind, and soul. Harboring anger and resentment poisons our minds and hinders our ability to live the other six Decisions with any measure of effectiveness. Forgiveness frees our spirits. Seven: The Persistent Decision I will persist without exception. Reason can only be stretched so far, but faith has no limits. The only limit to my realization of tomorrow is the doubt to which I hold fast today. The Persistent Decision reveals a critical twist to the notion of persistence: persisting “without exception” is key to achieving extraordinary levels of success in any (Location 298)
