🦾 I'm Fatigued
Dear Melius Humano,
Sorry for the late newsletter. I was hit hard with adrenal fatigue last week.
Here's the backstory:
I got an adjustment from a new Chiro. Later that day, I moved a bunch into our new HQ spot (boxes, heavy stuff, racks).
My back started to spasm towards the end of the day. The kind where you can barely bend over for fear locks up.
The next day, fatigue hit hard. It lasted for the next three days.
In the past, when I've been close to "overdoing it," I'd usually get sick—cough, runny nose, etc.
That was easier to deal with since I knew what to expect and what to do to recover.
This time, I had none of those symptoms. It was just a feeling of wanting to lie down and do nothing.
I recently started a pharmaceutical called LDN designed to help those with specific genetic autoimmune precursors. A family member recommended something to help stabilize my high cortisol levels (mornings are tough).
I may have hit a complication with that in conjunction with working a lot lately.
I overdid it. I barely had any downtime. Even if I was lying down at night with my iPad, I was still working or researching/writing related to work.
My brain last had a break in at least a month ago. I no longer have any shows to unwind with (most modern programming sucks... and man, what a disappointment Amman's LOTR was).
What's weird about this is I haven't felt stressed. I'm excited and fueled by all the cool stuff there is to do. So I thought about it, and the work/thinking state is probably cortisol-dominant.
To my body, it probably feels like I'm in a constant state of "flight or flight." Even if my mind isn't stressed, the body can only take so much.
Here is my current game plan for addressing this:
1. Cut caffeine. Going with a decaf Americano for now.
2. Completely unwind at night. Watch more movies and chill out. Just be rather than always trying to do.
3. Schedule vacation. I need to do this one. I've not taken a vacation in years. And when I did, I still worked.
4. Reduce sugar... for obvious reasons.
5. Increase protein... for obvious reasons.
6. Dose with extra liquid Fish oil (which just got back in stock!)
7. Experiment with a small breakfast and lunch instead of fasting until dinner each day (which feels totally normal for me)
8. Dose with Wild Mag Complex 2x a day (magnesium needs and stress are intertwined)
9. Way more red light (I currently wake up to this 1200 beast) + sunlight during the day.
As we age, managing our body and mind become paramount to sustainably.
In my thirties, I've had to learn this the hard way.
In my 20s, I could do almost anything and bounce back like that.
All I know is feeling like I did the past few days makes me appreciate the days when I feel normal.
When it comes to health, normal is WINNING.
