🦾 How to get everything you want
Dear Melius Humano (Better Human),
Everything you want is on the other side of effort.
That effort is what we Bitcoiners call "proof of work." It means you invested time/energy into something—you did the work.
The Taoist would recognize this concept in duality. They grasped how effort is tied to satisfaction. Yet our base, primal instinct things we want: easy and on-demand (look at society). When you remove effort, you rob the thing you're trying to get of its meaning, value, and appreciation. You, ironically, stop valuing it. Something you once wanted so badly is now just whatever. You've hedonically adapted to it.
So you think you want to be rich, but if you won the lottery, you'd end up like most lottery winners: broke and miserable.
Why?
Because you didn't earn it, earning it is the only way to develop the skills of appreciation and the knowledge of what it took to acquire it. That's how you hold on to it. Having something vs. holding on to it are entirely different matters.
As you obsess over your modern desires, remember that it's supposed to be hard. There are supposed to be obstacles. You are supposed to struggle. Otherwise, the thing you're chasing would be meaningless. Like water out of the tap, you don't value it, yet water can save your life (or end it).

Time and memory
Isn’t it fascinating how fast time goes by?
Think about what you did 30 days ago.
How did that day go?
Were you struggling with something? Physical pain? Fear? Anxiety? Loss?
Now you’re here today in the Now. The only place you ever are, by the way.
Isn’t that weird?
It’s a weird feeling.
We think we “remember,” but we know we don’t. We make up stuff. Our memories are fuzzy, and we add and subtract from them every time we recall them, just like when you make a copy of a copy of a copy on a copy machine. Over time, those small errors add up.
Proof of work - hard work - hard things
A meaningful life is found in creating, giving to, helping, inspiring, and being around other humans. Everything in the modern world SHOULD be a facilitator of that. Sadly most of it is directed toward the narcissistic and fear-based self.
A new year - the same you
Last year, 188 million Americans made New Year's Resolutions. Only 9% of people kept them.
Don't set resolutions. Just start.
Whatever you want to become, start right now.
If you tell yourself you will stay later, you won't.
Accept it.
There is no future, and there is no past. They are figments of your imagination. You will never reach the past or the future. You'll never get there. They are air. Ideas. Concepts.

Meditation is not hard or complicated. Do it in the shower. Count your breath while driving or doing the dishes. Take a walk and look closely at nature around you.
The more you do it, the more benefit you create.

🥒 Cooking: 40 Meals To Master ← This is a great list of basic dishes to learn. To simplify it more, I recommend learning these: 1) how to cook steak in a cast-iron 2) how to pan-sear any protein in a pan (fish, chicken, etc.) 3) how to cook burgers and 4) how to brown ground beef and add so much salt that it finally tastes good. Then build from there. That'll get you most of the way to healthy home-cooking.
