To succeed, you have to be disagreeable.
Nature built you to agree with the people around you. If your friends eat a certain way, vote a certain way, live a certain way, you are wired to fall in line. Fighting that current is hard. It was meant to be.
So when you go after something new, expect resistance. Not always loud. Usually quiet. A comment here. An unanswered text. A compliment that isn’t quite a compliment. People are good at pulling each other back. They have always been good at it.
If you are going to threaten the order of things, you had better be ready for that.
Most aren’t. They push forward and then look around confused, wondering why the people who claim to love them seem indifferent to their progress. Some even seem bothered by it.
It isn’t personal. It is just the way things are.
As Schopenhauer put it: “All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as self-evident.”
You are somewhere in the first two stages. Keep moving.
Do what you have to do. The ones worth keeping will still be there when the dust settles, even if they fought you a little on the way.
