Better Humans,
We have short memories.
We suffer setbacks, and it consumes us for a period. Then we get better. Then we forget, and we start to take the stable times for granted. So we go on to find the little annoyances of life creep into the front of our consciousness.
Hereβs an exampleβ¦
I just had four days of my back feeling the best it's has in a while. Then last night, after 2 hours of racquetball, it started up. Now itβs weighing on my mind.
Of course, I was grateful for those four days. I remembered to enjoy every pain-free moment. But with each passing day, I thought about it less and less. The feeling of gratitude wasn't as strong.
Then last night it caught me off guard. It was like my subconscious was already thinking it was a thing of the past.
So now I'm back to thinking of solutions and tweaks to my program.
One thing I need to do is get back on a solid weightlifting routine. I've been lifting since I was 16 years old, but Iβve been taking a much more lax approach to my training as of late. I'm not sticking to a schedule. Itβs a bit too random. So I need to get back to a routine. The 5/3/1 system by Jim Wendler is a great basic strength routine. My version goes like this: Squats, Deadlifts, Press, Bench once a week + accessories exercises.
Always be grateful. Always prioritize health.
